Assignment

This commissioned assignment allows students to contribute to the ongoing education of K-12 students through doing field research on the impact of the CEEL (Community Education Extended Learning) Program and then constructing materials to promote and contextualize the program for the community. Two possibilities exist for such work:

  1. Create multimedia artifacts, such as short documentary-style videos, for the CEEL website to chronicle students’ experiences in the program OR create staff training videos for new CEEL teachers.
  2. Compose one-page articles for the CEEL Gazette, a widely-distributed magazine composed each year for the Summer Youth Fair. These articles feature different programs and narrating stories surrounding CEEL.

Background

CEEL is a grant-funded extended learning after school youth enrichment program in elementary schools. Of the elementary students in the State College Area School District, 25% of students are enrolled in CEEL and participate in activities ranging from music, art, athletics, and more. SCASD’s community education also extends to summer camps and driver education programs.
