Commissioner

Zach Barton, Executive Director, Leadership Centre County

Assignment

In this commissioned assignment, students will create materials to promote and document the work of Leadership Centre County. The organization will have its thousandth graduate in 2021 and needs online content to help celebrate this important milestone, which can take at least two forms:

  1. Write short articles about the alumni and history of the organization. For example, students may write about changes in the organization since its 1992 founding. Students will work with Zach Barton to arrange interviews and/or access archival materials that will form the basis of these articles, which may be published on Leadership Centre County’s website, featured in their annual report, or shared in other venues.
  2. Create multimedia content that can be shared on Leadership Centre County’s social media pages. For example, students could create infographics on themes of leadership, community service, resilience in the time of Covid, and so on.

Background

Leadership Centre County is a nonprofit organization that trains and empowers Centre County residents to take the lead in fostering social change. Its centerpiece is the Community Leadership Program, in which participants go through a ten-month training, exploring the region’s socioeconomic issues and engaging in sustained community service. It also offers the Transformational Leadership Series, open to the public, in which experienced community leaders deliver presentations on a range of subjects.
